I developed this documentation to serve as a practical and accessible training tool for nonprofit operations and data teams. The guide covers every critical step—from understanding the software’s purpose and verifying system requirements, to installation, configuration, basic reporting, advanced analytics, troubleshooting, and best practices. Each section is written in clear, jargon-free language and can be easily used in live training sessions, onboarding repositories, or helpdesk resources.

Power BI’s range of features, advanced analytics, and integrations can feel overwhelming to new users. Distilling technical processes—such as data modeling, DAX formula writing, and report publishing—into simple, actionable steps required deep software knowledge and a focus on accessibility.
The goal was to provide enough detail for a complete beginner to succeed, without causing information overload. I selectively introduced basic concepts while structuring the guide in a way that builds confidence and encourages learning by doing.
Balancing speed with quality was a key challenge, especially when aiming to produce detailed, user-friendly documentation on a tight timeline.
To streamline the documentation process, I used Google Docs to quickly locate and adapt a user guide template, then leveraged Perplexity AI to efficiently draft and refine the initial language. This approach enabled rapid prototyping, consistent structure, and high-quality content in less time, allowing me to focus on tailoring the guide for the needs of beginner users.
